General Terms and Conditions

1 Courses

1.1 Courses start on Monday (Tuesday when Monday is a public holiday). You may miss one lesson on your first day because of the time needed to complete registration and administer your placement test.

1.2 No tuition is held on public holidays (01 January, 10 February, 19 March, 31 March , 22 April, 1 May, 7 June, 29 June, 15 August, 8 September, 21 September, 8 December, 13 December and 25 December); however, the school will do its best to recover lost hours. The school is closed for 2 weeks over the Christmas period. The last school day is Friday 23 December 2011 and it reopens again on Monday 2 January 2012.

1.3 All lessons are of 45 minutes duration. Group classes are held either in the morning from 09:00 to 10:30 and from 11:00 to 12:30 or in the afternoon from 13:00 to 14:30 and from 15:00 to 16:30. Intensive English lessons are held in the morning and in the afternoon. Private lessons are held any time from 07:30 to 18:00

1.4 Linguatime does not guarantee a particular course or timetable until you have taken your placement test and your English level is assessed at the school. Every effort will be made to place you in the course of your choice. In the event of an insufficient number of students enrolling for a course the school reserves the right to offer an alternative course of equal value. Linguatime reserves the right to change course programmes in the event of circumstances beyond the school’s control or if it is in the interest of the students or the school. The school also reserves the right to change teachers and classrooms at any time during the course.

1.5 Tuition prices include all EFL course materials. Course books are loaned to the students and are to be returned at the end of the course. Students should bring pens, pencils and writing paper with them.

1.6 Prices of Examination Courses do not include examination fees and course books. These are charged separately.

1.7 The school reserves the right not to award a certificate of attendance to students who are absent for more than twenty percent of their lessons.

1.8 The minimum age for our students is 17 years. Students aged 13 to 16 can attend the teenager group courses during the months of July and August. We cater for groups of teenagers (minimum 10 students, during the rest of the year). Private Tuition for teenagers can also be booked all year round.

1.9 Teenager courses (aged 13 to 16) are available from Monday 4 July to Friday 12 August 2011 (with arrival and departure dates at the weekend). Teenagers booking a course must book our Teenager package. Students under 18 years of age who are not travelling with an adult must choose homestay accommodation.

1.10 If you are taking a long course you may take one break of a maximum of two weeks every 12 weeks without losing your course fee for this period, provided you inform the school 3 weeks in advance. During your break period you will be charged the full weekly accommodation rate and you may leave your luggage at the school.

2 Activities

2.1 The school organises cultural and leisure activities. You are charged extra for these activities unless it is specifically stated that the price of any course or package is inclusive of such activities.

3 Accommodatio

3.1 Accommodation is charged per person per week. Stays of less than 5 nights in a week are charged pro-rata.

3.2 On your arrival you can check in your room after 14:00. On your departure day you must vacate your room by 09:00. If you require early check-in or late check-out you must inform the school in writing at least two weeks prior to your arrival. Should the room be available you will be charged extra for using the room.

3.3 Host Family accommodation consists of shared room accommodation (max 4 in one room), breakfast and an evening meal (Half Board). A packed lunch (Full Board) and a single room can be booked at an extra cost.

3.4 Shared Apartment accommodation consists of shared rooms in self catering apartments (max 4 in one room) exclusive of meals. A single room can be booked at an extra cost.

3.5 Students must pay a refundable deposit of Euro 100 on their first day at school when booking Shared Apartment accommodation. This serves as security to cover for any breakages or damages.

3.6 The minimum age for Shared Apartment accommodation is 18 years.

3.7 If you choose Shared Apartment accommodation you must book the school’s airport arrival transfer in order to receive the key to your apartment. Your arrival flight details are to be communicated to the school in writing at least 5 days prior to arrival. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of your arrival transfer from the airport and you will not be able to use your accommoda

4 Airport Transfer

4.1 Airport transfers are charged at an extra cost unless specifically stated that the package price is inclusive of such transfers.

4.2 If you book Apartment accommodation you must also book the school’s airport arrival transfer service in order to receive the key to your apartment.

4.3 Your arrival flight details must be sent to the school in writing not later than 5 days prior to the arrival date. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of the arrival transfer. If you miss your flight or change your arrival date you must inform the school in advance in order to cancel your arrival taxi transfer on time.

5 Teenagers

5.1 Teenage bookings are subject to policies and conditions as indicated in our Teen Terms and Conditions

6 Dismissal from Course and Accommodatio

6.1 The school reserves the right to dismiss any student from the course and accommodation for unjustified absence, misconduct or unacceptable behaviour. No refund will be given in these situations and any costs arising, including repatriation costs, will be at the student’s expense.

7 Supervisio

7.1 Unaccompanied minors (under 18) are not provided with supervision after lesson times, unless they are on a school activity.

8 Visas

It is strongly recommended you do not finalise any travel arrangements before the visa confirmation is received from the Immigration Office. Linguatime cannot be held responsible for any costs arising as a result of visa refusals.

9 Liability / Insuranc

9.1 Students have to pay for any damage they cause on the school premises or at their accommodation.

9.2 It is strongly recommended that you take out a personal insurance cover including travel, cancellation, medical and repatriation cover. Linguatime is not liable in case of illness, accident, loss or damage to personal effects or property.

10 Payments, Cancellations, Refunds and Complaints

10.1 To confirm your booking you need to pay either:

  • a non-refundable deposit of 20% of your course fees and accommodation. OR
  • payment in full if you are booking less than two weeks before your arrival.

10.2 Two weeks before your arrival you need to pay the full balance of your course and accommodation fees. Full fees for your course and accommodation must be received before you can enter your accommodation.

10.3 Fees and costs are payable by bank transfer or by credit card. Bank charges must be added to the fees when effecting payment. All credit card payments must include an additional 3% charge to cover credit card fees.

10.4 If you cancel before your arrival the following cancellation fees will apply:

  • 15 days or more before your arrival date: 20% of the total amount
  • Between 8 to 14 days before your arrival date: 50% of the total amount
  • 7 days or less before your arrival date: 100% of the total amount

10.5 No refund will be made when students withdraw from a course or their accommodation or leisure activities or curtail their course or accommodation or fail to attend classes. Periods of absence due to illness or accident are not refundable. Any request for a course credit must be made in writing on a form available from the School Administration. Replies will be given in writing.

10.6 If you decide to change your course and/or accommodation or your course or accommodation start or finish dates there is a charge of €25 for each time you make a change. All changes are subject to the school’s approval.

10.7 Refunds will only be made to the same person or organisation from whom the payment was received in the first place. Refunds cannot be processed before the full payment has been received by the School for the full services booked.

10.8 Any problems or complaints with courses, accommodation, activities or any other services should be brought to our attention immediately so that we can help. We cannot accept complaints after the end of your stay. Complaints should be formally made by filling in a Complaint Form available from Reception.

11 Force Majeure

Linguatime is not liable if the school fails to supply contracted services as a result of causes or events outside our control, such as, but not limited to, natural disasters, strikes & industrial disputes, unusually adverse weather conditions and the like.


Linguatime Teen Terms and Conditions 2011

1 Reservations

1.1 Teenagers must book the full teenager’s package (including airport transfers and activities) unless accompanied by an adult.

1.2 The Teenagers Booking Form must be completely filled in and all documents requested must be sent to the School together with the booking form at the time of booking.

2 Curfew Times

2.1 13-15 year old students must be home by 22:30 hrs (Sunday- Thursday) and 23:30 hrs (Friday-Saturday). 16-17 year old students must be home by 23:30 hrs (Sunday- Thursday) and 00:30 hrs (Friday-Saturday).

3 School Attendance

3.1 Attendance in class is mandatory.

3.2 Students who are unable to attend lessons due to illness should inform their host family and the school.

3.3 Failure to attend lessons without a valid reason will be seen as a cause for dismissal.

4 Activities

4.1 Students who miss any of their activities will not be refunded or compensated.

4.2 Attendance on all activities booked and that form part of the package are mandatory.

5 Documentation

5.1 Linguatime provides each student with a student card on their first day at school. Students must carry this card with them at ALL times.

5.2 Students are advised not to carry around with them their passports / national identification cards and other important documents. These should be kept in a safe place during their stay.

6 Other Information

6.1 Students are to abide by the house rules when living with a host family.

6.2 Students are to notify the school during their stay (not after departure) should they encounter any problems.

6.3 Consumption of alcohol by students under the age of 18 is prohibited.

6.4 Consumption or possession of any illegal drugs/substance is against the law.

6.5 These Teen Terms and Conditions apply in addition to our standard Terms and Conditions.
